Welcome Guest
Dear Guest, Thank you for stopping by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fort Myers. Please know at the beginning UUCFM does indeed welcome all who come to us with an open mind and an affectionate heart. We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds. We especially work to celebrate the diversity of curiosity and aspiration that characterize those who seek us out. Ours is a non-creedal congregation, which means, simply, there is no test of membership, except your own sense that this spiritual home for you, and your willingness to honor the sacred heritage of Unitarian Universalism. Rather than a creed, in our worship, we pledge a covenant to each other. It says:
The quest of truth is its sacrament And service is its prayer. To dwell together in peace, To seek knowledge in freedom, To help one another, To do justice and love mercy, To the end that all souls shall grow in harmony -- This is our covenant with each and with all. This says well what we're all about. In the pages that follow, you'll find our story as a forty-two-year-old congregation of over 250 adults in Lee County. Here also is information about Unitarian Universalism in general and links to the wider Unitarian Universalist world. If you are a first time visitor, you may want to begin with the about Unitarian Universalism page. There you will find answers to many of your questions as to the nature, heritage, and ideals of the Free Church. Also, you will find here sketches of our programs of ministry for all ages. Our worship begins with all ages present each week at 10:30 a.m. After the morning choral anthem, the children adjourn to age-appropriate learning groups. Nursery care is available for pre-school toddlers and infants. Parents with very young ones may take comfort and hear the service from within the "Quiet Room" at the back of the Miller Sanctuary without fear of a fussy child being a disturbance. Worship is our central activity. Our Minister leads most of our services throughout the year. We have an adult choir or other special music throughout the year. As a non-creedal congregation in the tradition of the free church, our worship will be both familiar and yet unusual to the typical church-goer. We believe in life-span religious education. Thus, RE, as we shorten in, is for all children and adults. The Sunday morning church school is the primary learning period for children. Adult education and program is spread throughout the week. Stop by the "Programs & Events" section to discover the wide array of learning and social opportunities that await. Living our faith in human dignity and freedom by committing ourselves personally and as a congregation to social justice work if vital to our mission. Click on the "Social Justice" button for details of recent and forth-coming events. Additionally, we host a special gifts collection on the 2nd Sunday of each month for the special needs of our community. You will also find in these pages a virtual tour of our beautiful campus, plus directions to the church and instructions for contacting our church leadership. The church's leadership structure and organization are described on the "Our Leadership" page. A photo gallery will show you some of our many congregational events. Lastly, there is a map to help you find us easily. Click on "Contact" if you'd like to send us a note. Or call the church office at 239.561.2700 to speak to the Minister or Director of Religious Education. Thanks again! We hope to see you on Shire Lane in the near future.
