President's Welcome Message

Carol Barclay, President We welcome you to the website of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ft Myers where religion and reason meet. We are one of the 1,000 UU congregations in the United States. We are a Welcoming Congregation and Green Sanctuary. We affirm and promote our seven principles as we are a diverse congregation with members of all ages working together for an improved community and a better world. Our UU Church of Ft Myers was founded in 1961 and we have over 250 adults and children. We have a professional staff of six dedicated individuals . As a self-governing church, we are both free and responsible to determine the mission, programming and structure that best meet our own spiritual needs. The generous offerings of our collective time, talent, insight and financial resources helps sustain and strengthen our congregation.

We invite you to join us at our weekly Sunday services which begin at 10:30a.m. in our beautiful sanctuary on Shire Lane in Ft Myers. Each Sunday we offer creative sermons, readings and music that is varied and enlightening. We honor and celebrate holidays and occasions from the religions of our past. We invite guests from diverse backgrounds to speak at our weekly services. Our Minister, a Unitarian Universalist clergyperson, provides leadership and educational opportunities for our congregation. Our Music Director brings us varied musical experiences each Sunday morning. We have a talented choir which sings at our weekly service accompanied by our organ, piano or synthesizer,.

Our Religious Education program is open to children of various ages (we provide childcare for infants and toddlers). Our children attend the first part of our morning services which includes a special "Message for All Ages." Special intergenerational programs are held during the year. The first Sunday of each month is designed as Family Sunday and lunch is provided, so families may meet and socialize. We have many opportunities for adults to get together. On Sundays at 9:15a.m., a Humanist Discussion Group and Religion and Reason class take place. Wednesday nights, from September through April, we hold an evening potluck followed by a program and/or classes. There is also a Women's Circle Supper on the second Monday of the month and a weekly Men's Group for lunch and dinner – on separate days. Childcare is always available for events upon request.

Following Sunday services, there is coffee hour in Hobart Hall where guests and members have the opportunity to meet. Our Welcome Table, where you can ask questions and obtain information is available before church in the narthex and in Hobart Hall following the service.

We look forward to welcoming you for worship and celebration. We are committed to working toward a world community of peace, liberty and justice . COME VISIT US!
