A Charitable Bequest: A Gift You Plan Now, Make Later

Rare is the person who regrets having been truly generous or thoughtful. Yet, how can you give away property, securities or real estate now if you do not know whether you or your family will need those assets later? One solution is to make gifts to our congregation by means of a bequest—a gift in your will.

Make A Bequest.

Make it Simple.

Make a Difference.

Include Us in Your Will and Help Shape the Future

Without much effort, you can make a long-lasting impact on the future of Unitarian Universalism. In addition to its simplicity, a bequest to support the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fort Myers will allow your assets to be available to you throughout your lifetime.

An unrestricted direct bequest in your will or trust of a specific sum of money, a percentage of your estate or a particular asset will help to ensure a secure future for Unitarian Universalism and this church.

Following are some of the advantages of bequests:

• Easy. A few sentences in your will complete the gift.

• Revocable. Until your will goes into effect, you are free to alter your plans.

• Versatile. You can bequeath a specific item, an amount of money, a gift contingent upon certain events, or a percentage or remainder of your estate.

• Tax-wise. Your estate is entitled to an unlimited estate tax charitable deduction for gifts to qualified charitable organizations.

How to Remember Us in Your Will

Creating a bequest is easy and as simple as adding a sentence or two to your will. Regardless of the amount, your bequest is a statement of faith, and if you demonstrate that you care enough about Unitarian Universalism to support its future, others will follow your example. Below is suggested language you can use to draft your bequest.

Unrestricted Gift

I give to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fort Myers (UUCFM) (tax I.D. number 59-116-0337), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, located in Fort Myers, FL., [_____ percent of my estate or the sum of $________ ] for its general purposes.

Restricted Gift
I give to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fort Myers (UUCFM) (tax I.D. number 59-116-0337), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, located in Fort Myers, Fl.,[______ percent of my estate or the sum of $________] to be used for [stated purpose]. If at any time in the judgment of the UUCFM Board of Trustees it is deemed impossible or impracticable to carry out the above purpose, said trustees shall determine a purpose as near as possible to that description above.

You should consult your professional advisor to be sure you have a properly drafted legal document.
