The UUCFM GRACE Project, Guatemalan Rural Adult and Children’s Education, serves farm worker and indigenous families in Southwest Florida and in Guatemala. Since 2005, we have:

• Written and produced the Mira Mamá© radio PSAs in five languages and Lucía’s Letter©, an audio CD which has become a powerful educational audio CD on human trafficking awareness, currently available in six languages, with translations in progress into French, Vietnamese, and 22 African languages,
• Organized and delivered dozens of Methods and Materials Workshops in Spanish for over 1,400 educators, in rural Guatemala, working with the Guatemalan Ministry of Education, Guatemala Child Aid, and the Rigoberta Menchú Tum Foundation,
• Trained ten indigenous and Latin women in SW Florida to teach Reproductive Health workshops for women with family planning, domestic safety and self-help practices,
• Delivered three Women’s Health Workshops co-taught by the Community Facilitators in Spanish with three indigenous languages, in Fort Myers neighborhoods,
• Organized the Take Heart Art and ArtReach painting projects to educate women and girls and facilitate their creation of large canvases about human trafficking prevention and healing.  These expressive paintings are now circulating in exhibits nationwide,
• Coordinated the musical group, Las Mayas de Huehuetenángo, of Mayan women and their US born daughters who live in Lee County, who play bamboo Mayan drums which they created locally, and sing and dance traditional Mayan chants,
• Sponsored three Work-study trips to Guatemala for UUCFM volunteers and our Minister,
• Applied for and won financial support from:

1. The Unitarian Universalist Fund for Social Justice in Boston,
2. The Unitarian Universalist Women’s Federation in Boston,
3. The Sanibel-Captiva ZONTA Foundation,
4. The UUCFM Endowment Committee, and
5. The Florida Coalition Against Human Trafficking, and

• Created the multilingual educational game sets for:

1. EcoBINGO Bilingo© with middle and high school science and ecology terms in Spanish, English and five Mayan languages,
2. BINGO Adulto© for reproductive health classes, in Spanish, and
3. BINGO Sano© for elementary healthy living classes, soon to translate into three Mayan languages.

The GRACE Project is always grateful for volunteers for our Women’s Health Workshops for food preparation, driving or childcare, for assistance with writing grant proposals, and for hearty travelers who want to learn Spanish and explore Guatemala.
